So, the merger between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines is now going to happen. As far as I'm concerned this is just rich guys doing Rich Guy stuff.
Alaska is the much larger airline, so I'm sure they will be the dominant company. This is what alarms me.
In my opinion, the ongoing issues with the Hawaiian call center in the Philippines are minor compared to Alaska's known history of poor maintenance of their airplanes.
Just Google Alaska Airlines Flight 261 and take a look at what the investigation revealed as the cause.
More recently was the mid-air door plug blowout on another Alaska airplane.
I will not willingly board any Alaska Airlines aircraft.
I recognize that no airline is perfect, but to my knowledge, in its entire 90+ year history, Hawaiian Airlines has never had a fatal accident or hull loss.
They should be proud of this fact. I hope the impending merger does not affect this remarkable record.
