Letter: Speaking of school shootings
Dear Editor,
Speaking of deadly school shootings, CBS’s Nora O’Donnell recently said, “Something needs to be done.”
Wow, thanks Momma Nora. Now we know that 388 such events since Columbine 25 years ago is just too many.
What I didn’t hear coming from O’Donnell’s lips is “what,” or “how.” Her deer-in-the-headlight approach to news commentary is typical of today’s politically neutralist, or should I say neutered, newscasters. School shootings are not a political issue, sweetheart. They are a humanitarian issue that no one should be careful about addressing for fear of losing popularity, or corporate profits.
Impotence is the middle name of corporate America today. Or, perhaps, “lack of any discernible conscience.” If you and your bosses care, Madame Newscaster, why don’t you take a stand on exactly what can be done?
