Letter: Dog victim of irresponsible Lahaina hit-and-run driver

Last night, around or near the Puamana area, my son's dog was hit by a motor vehicle and subsequently died. This unfortunate incident was a motor vehicle hit-and-run.

I would like everyone who drives on these highways and streets to be aware that could have been you or your loved ones.

Last night, it happened to be a dog (no less traumatic nor heartbreaking). However, let's just think about it as if it were a person. Who was struck and killed by that car?

Please share this message with everyone you know. It could have been you.

Please drive responsibly and sober. And please, if you see bikers on the roads at night, please turn off your high lights. It blinds the cyclist like "deer in headlights," and causes the bikers to veer off the road.

Please remember if you can't see at night, don't drive!

And to the one who struck and killed my son's dog in the hit-and-run, all things in our lives will be accounted for in due time. Good luck.

I'm just saying you are so very lucky it was not my son. God forbid. How lucky do you think you'll be the next time you hit-and-run?
