The U.S. Constitution is the bedrock of our country, our democracy, our rule of law.

More than we realize, it is in the very DNA of every American; setting our values, laying down the rules we live by, bestowing our personal freedom.

Right now, our Constitution is under attack by Trump, aka the Sun King. His first target is Birthright Citizenship, a constitutional right that every child born in the United States is automatically a citizen. One of his first acts was to proclaim that the children born to undocumented immigrants in America will no longer become citizens at birth, no matter how long her parents have lived here.

Why should this concern you? Because an attack on the Constitution is an attack on the very foundation your life is based on. If the Constitution gets run over, we will no longer be a country living under the rule of law. We will become a country where irate citizens who speak out will get thrown in the nearest, convenient gulag. Or if the Sun King issues an edict taking away your citizenship, you will be left as a citizen of no country, like those immigrant children.

The good news: Trump got his butt handed to him in the first round when federal district courts around the country ruled his actions were unconstitutional. That happened because Democratic State Attorneys General from 12 states, including Hawaii, and organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union were ready for him.

I am proud of our state for standing up for what truly makes America great.
