Letter: Who is going to care for all the aging?
Currently there are 62 million people in America 65 years and older, or about 18 percent of the population.
In the next five years, the population of people 65 years and older will be at a low estimate of 20 percent of the population.
In Japan, almost 30 percent of the population currently are 65 years and older. For some reason, many young couples, especially Asian countries like Japan, Korea and China, have decided not to have children.
In 2023, America’s birth rate was its all-time low, down three percent. For women in America between the ages of 20-24, the birth rate has declined 50 percent from 2007. The fertility rate dropped 19 percent from 2007-2022.
Who is going to take care of all the aging population in America that is increasing at a rapid rate?
