I am frustrated with the disconcerting state of the Molokai Little League, particularly concerning the safety and wellbeing of our children.
In May, our community was witness to a disgraceful spectacle -- violence unfolded not once, but twice at the Jr/Sr Division Little League events.
The first incident occurred during a ballgame, with children trapped in the epicenter of an escalating conflict involving parents, coaches, spectators and even the league's division representative.
A meeting to discuss this chaotic incident, held four days later, also devolved into a similar contemptible scenario. Those, who we trust with the league's leadership, turned this meeting into an exhibition ground for adult bullying, name-calling, and shameful behavior, all in front of our children. Such situations leave our young athletes disheartened and traumatized.
Additionally, the minor league season was abruptly cut short by the whims of the division representatives and league agent, contradicting the long-standing tradition of playing to the season's end. The selfish decision to forfeit the remaining games for extra practice time for "all-star" players was a slap to the minors who were robbed of their well-deserved celebratory ending.
It's appalling how adults, who are expected to set an example for our children, have failed in their duties. This poor conduct goes beyond being merely neglectful, it's inexcusably biased, disrespectful and downright dangerous.
The current leadership needs to be replaced, elected by the community. The individuals who are directly involved in the league board and representatives are volunteers and are not accountable to anyone.
