Recent mandates from the Department of Labor are signaling the potential closure of this vital program nationwide, and we need your support now more than ever.
Job Corps is confronting serious threats. In March, the DOL terminated the contract with the company responsible for conducting background checks for new enrollees, causing a halt in the enrollment process.
Consequently, approximately 12,000 prospective students are awaiting acceptance into the program. Additionally, during a recent budget hearing, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Job Corps' future, stating that while she is open to collaborating with Congress, no definitive decision has been made.
In response, National Job Corps Association and other partners have launched an aggressive outreach campaign starting today. Centers are reaching out to their communities, employer partners, local officials, students, parents, staff and supporters, urging them to contact their Congressional representatives.
Our goal is clear: Share positive, personal stories about Job Corps and encourage Congress to continue funding and immediately resume enrollment.
Leaders from Job Corps are also meeting with Congress members this week and collaborating with the DOL to explore ways to enhance the program's efficiency and impact.
