Letter: E Pluribus Unum: From the many, one
Equity is like gestalt: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
One of the founding principles of our federal republic is representation of the will of the majority while protecting the rights and voices of the minority.
The composition of the Senate and House of Representatives reflects this principle. Can we say that this principle is reflected in America today?
Among our country’s leaders are those who, in spite of humble beginnings, attended prestigious universities under opportunities afforded by equity and diversion programs. Sadly, fear-driven loyalty seems to have driven them to abandon their inner compass to do what is right.
What I see in America today is rhetoric that declares that which is good (diversity, equity, inclusion, truth, science, …) to be bad. A return to the founding principles would do much to unite us.
We are, after all, the United States. The promise of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. E Pluribus Unum: from the many, one.
