Letter: Something about unpleasant faces that everybody senses

It has been part of the teachings and wisdom of older cultures that a man or woman is responsible for the appearance or look of its face beginning at the age of 35.

I am reminded of this when I look at President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Also, when one sees the Cabinet and many Republican state governors.

What this means is that after the age of 35, one’s thoughts, deeds, intentions, motives and desires are reflected in a person’s facial features. One cannot hide great immorality, corruption, fear, doubt, self-pity, cruelty, deceit and other deeply present qualities in a person.

Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas has a face worthy of study, because it shows a number of signs of inhumanity, cruelty, dishonesty, infantile reactions and bad karma, due to a history of unsavory conduct and a kind of physical ugliness. One might say similar things about the president.

While beauty is not always a sign of virtue and ugliness is not always a sign of vice, there is something about an unpleasant face that we all sense.

Now deceased, “Moms” Mabley, a Black female comedian, once said that she was fixed up on a blind date who was so ugly it hurt her feelings.

How many people wince when they see the Orange Halloween Pumpkin face masquerading as a sane, intelligent leader of the nation?
