Letter: Protect Social Security to ensure its continuity

As we approach the 90th anniversary of Social Security on August 14, it is imperative that we protect this program to ensure its continuity for older Americans.

Social Security has proven to be one of the most successful initiatives in American history.

Living in Hawaii can be paradise, but not for some older members of our community.

For many, Social Security is a lifeline that helps with the necessities of life. Without it, hard decisions have to be made like going without medication or skipping meals or making other sacrifices such as paying utility bills.

After years of paying into the Social Security system, it is only right that this program continues to support older Americans who deserve this source of income to help with their financial security.

Social Security must remain a viable program, not only for today but for future generations to come.

Simply put, after a lifetime of paying into the Social Security system, our older Americans earned this.
