Letter: Hawaii loses great person in great basketball coach
Hawaii will lose a great basketball women’s coach.
But most of all, our state will lose a great person.
Coach Breeman was a genuine person. Her goal wasn’t about her, she cared about the girls. She had great success like no other with the players she had.
Like all sport programs in Hawaii, it is hard to recruit elite players because of our conference and exposure. Coach Beeman had a lot of success despite the program’s recruiting problems and disadvantage.
Hawaii is not like South Carolina when it comes to recruiting. She brought out the best of the players. She had pushed them on and off the court to reach their full potential as not only a player and as a person. One former player told me coach sometimes was a pain in the ass, but later realized her coach was always looking out for the players after basketball in their personal lives. She preached hard work, dedication and attitude that will eventually lead to success.
