Letter: Coaching money college sports always had politics

Eran Ganot is an excellent basketball coach. His knowledge of the game of basketball is unbelievable.

If he went to a big-time conference and able to recruit, he would be successful. Eran made the best he could with the players he had.

Can you believe Rick Patino was the coach to two national championships, with Kentucky, Louisville and now the coach with St. Johns, coached at Hawaii?

In college sports, it is about recruiting and conference. If you can’t recruit big time players, it will be impossible to have success.

Kentucky has had over 150 players drafted in the National Basketball Association. Hawaii has had less than five, and zero in the NBA presently. Not good for recruiting, but good if you want a free education.

Hawaii is the place to be. Hawaii in all sports have always had brilliant coaches, but recruiting is always a challenge.

Coaching in big time college sports that pay big money around the country has all always had politics, politics, politics.

It is not necessary in a lot of careers what you know but who you know will determine you success.
