Descartes wrote, "I think, therefore I am." Questionable.
St. Augustine stated that he made mistakes, therefore someone was mistaken. Clever, but to love is a more convincing proof of existence.
Love evokes states of mind, heart, soul and emotion. To love deeply without reservation, involves all of the sacred, subtle, spiritual, powerful aspects of human existence. Along with the lesser refined aspects of the physical constitution.
Crudely and rashly, one might put one's hand in a flame, with the scream and feeling of
pain prove that one exists.
But who or what? One can peer into a mirror and see a form. One recognizes, generally, over time, a continuous and persistent quality of being.
And we possess a measurable degree of life. Meaning–some are nervous or athletic. Others phlegmatic or slow to spark. Some are cheerfully sanguine. Some are melancholic. Some engaging, others not.
There is much that is recognizable about or within us, which establishes to oneself and others that something, perhaps imperishable, exists.
Are we not body, soul and spirit?
Putting pieces, parts and qualities together, we can speak about a veiled, mysterious,
sought after self.
The true being of existence. The germ of spirit in soul. That which lives many lifetimes. That which represents some sort of repository of light, grace and experience from them.
For example, previous acts of heroic sacrifice, or secret heart sacrifices may
be transformed into various high-quality faculties in succeeding lifetimes.
