Bobcats pull away to defeat Aggies, 64-52
WAILUKU — Montana State pulled away from a halftime tie to record a 64-52 win over Utah State in the first game of the Maui Jim Maui Classic on Friday night at War Memorial Gym.
The Bobcats (4-2) — an NCAA tournament team last season as champions of the Big Sky Conference — shot 16-for-31 (51.6 percent) in the second half after shooting 7-for-26 (26.9 percent) in the first half, which ended in a 20-20 tie.
Utah State (1-5), who played in the Women’s Basketball Invitational postseason tournament last season, shot 18-for-46 (39.1 percent) for the game.
Oliana Squires led three Bobcats in double figures with 18 points — she shot 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Hannah Caudill added 16 points and Delany Junkermier had 12.
Rachel Brewster scored 16 points for the Aggies, while Olivia West added 13.
Montana State will face Nevada today at 5 p.m., while Utah State takes on host Oregon State 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
