Vaught named to NFCA All-West Region team
Pacific University softball player Montana Vaught was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region second team on Wednesday.
The sophomore catcher out of Kamehameha Schools Maui, who was also a first team all-Northwest Conference selection, led the league in slugging percentage (.803), was second in doubles (17), third in runs scored (44), fifth in home runs (10) and RBIs (43), eighth in triples (2) and 10th in on-base percentage (.462).
Lahaina Chiefs sign-up set for Saturday
Registration for the Maui Pop Warner’s Lahaina Chiefs Football and Cheer is scheduled for Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at Lahaina Recreation Field.
The fee is $55 for tiny mite, and $85 for all other football teams as well as cheer.
Players must be present at the time of registration for weight-ins.

Basketball clinic set for this weekend
The Steve Sir Basketball Shooting Clinic, presented by the Maui Youth Basketball League and Top Notch Basketball, starts Friday at Seabury Hall’s Erdman Athletic Center in Olinda.
The three-day basketball clinic is open to middle school and high school players. The registration fee is $60.
The schedule for high school participants is 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday and Sunday.
The middle school schedule is 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, and 1-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Sir played collegiately at San Diego State and Northern Arizona, finishing his career as the NCAA all-time leader in career 3-point percentage (46.8 percent).
