Kamehameha Maui girls, boys open with wins over Sabers

The Kamehameha Schools Maui bowling teams each picked up wins in their first matches of the Maui Interscholastic League season Saturday at Maui Bowling Center.

The defending MIL champion Warrior girls team defeated Maui High 3-0.

Nadia Apo-Takayama bowled games of 166 and 155, and Tahan Valdez posted a 155 and 153 to lead Kamehameha Maui. The Sabers (3-3) were led by Schuyler Barcoma-Suyat (145-125) and Shayla Uyeno (126).

In the boys match, the Warrior defeated the Sabers 2-1.

Josiah Kaluau-Shimada had a 170 and Jasyah Macugay had a 138 for Kamehameha. Cy Fernandez bowled a 166 and RJ Salacup a 134 for Maui High (2-4).

Also Saturday, the Kihei Charter girls picked up their first victory of the year, 3-0 over King Kekaulike.

High scorers for the Tiger Sharks (3-3) were Tori Fonville (141-141) and Nehemiah Kuhaulua (133). Leona Wong (119) and Mahiole Austring (116) led Na Alii (0-6).

In the boys match, Logan Brittain bowled a high game of 157 to lead King Kekaulike (5-1) to a 3-0 win over Kihei Charter (0-6).

Gavin Brittain had a 154 and 147, and Trevor Onaga posted a 156 and 142 for Na Alii. The Tiger Sharks were led by Delaun Prentice (114).
