Mayor Michael Victorino will host a celebration on Sept. 6 to honor Maui's youth baseball teams that represented the state at regional and national championships over the summer.
"I welcome everyone to come out to celebrate with these players," Victorino said Friday in a press release announcing the event. "We're honoring all these teams, players and coaches who've taken Maui to the next level in national competition."
The free event will begin at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku, where Victorino will present certificates to the players and coaches. Hot dogs, light refreshments and shave ice will be provided.
Around 5:30 p.m., the group will join a parade from the County Building, toward Waihee on South High Street and then march makai on Main Street. The group will turn onto Market Street and proceed to the main stage area for Wailuku First Friday.
"This celebration is Maui County's way of saying 'thank you' for the memories, for their discipline, hard work and commitment. We have fallen in love with these players, and they have brought honor and joy to the people of Maui County," Victorino said.
This summer, three teams from Central East Maui Little League (Majors, Intermediates, Seniors) as well as the Maui All-Stars in the Pony and Mustang divisions won their respective state championships to advance to regional competitions.
The CEM Seniors (15-16) went on to win it all, defeating Curacao 11-0 in six innings in the world championship game of the Senior League World Series in Easley, S.C., on Aug. 3.
As the Seniors were finishing up, the Central East Maui Majors (11-12) team was starting their run to Williamsport, Pa., becoming the first Valley Isle team to make the Little League World Series. CEM went 3-0 before falling to eventual world champion Louisiana in the U.S. title game and closing with another loss to Japan in the third-place game.
