Young done, Spencer moves on at Pan Am Games

Cody Young's run at the Pan American Games ended Wednesday as the Maui surfer was eliminated in Lima, Peru.
Young, who was representing Canada in the competition, lost to Peru's Alonso Correa 16.00-11.47 in the second repechage round of the tournament, the winner of which will clinch a spot in next year's Tokyo Olympics.
Still competing is Maui's Finn Spencer in the men's stand-up paddleboard surfing event. Spencer, who like Young is representing Canada, won his main round 2 heat with a total of 12.50. The 15-year-old beat out American Daniel Hughes (11.50) and Argentina's Mariano de Cabo (7.84).
Maui's Connor Baxter is set to compete in the men's SUP race Friday.
At the Callao Sports Center, the Pan Am men's volleyball tournament got underway Wednesday, with Maui's Colton Cowell and the United States team losing its opener against Chile 25-17, 25-17, 17-25, 25-22.
Cowell, who is entering his senior season at the University of Hawaii, led the U.S. with 17 points (16 kills, one ace). He is joined on the U.S. squad by UH teammates Joe Worsley and Kupono Fey, who started at setter and libero, respectively.
The Americans continue pool play today against Mexico.
