’Bows bounce back with sweep

The 19th-ranked University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team rebounded from its second Big West Conference loss of the season by beating UC Santa Barbara in three sets Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine, who the night before were swept by Cal Poly, responded with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-19 win over the Guachos, who had entered the match undefeated in Big West play.

Hanna Hellvig had 14 kills and McKenna Ross added 12 kills to lead UH (14-3, 4-2 Big West). Amber Igiede had eight kills and two blocks, Norene Iosia had 16 assists and 14 digs, Bailey Choy had 19 assists and Rika Okino had 10 digs.

Hawaii outhit the Gauchos .286 to .175 for the match.

UC Santa Barbara (15-2, 5-1) got 12 kills and 11 digs from Lindsey Ruddins.

The Rainbow Wahine now return home to face UC Riverside on Friday and UC Davis on Saturday.
