San Agustin captures gold for USA at Canada Open

Jerico San Agustin of Kiffmann’s Maui Elite Taekwondo won gold for the United States at the Canada Open, held Oct. 4-6 in Montreal.
San Agustin won the junior 48-kilogram division of the international Olympic qualification event. Puerto Rico’s Luis Gonzalez-Campos took silver and American Luis Adan Mendez took bronze.
Competing in the senior featherweight division, Miles Kiffmann defeated Walid Elshazly Adham of Egypt before falling to Canada’s Tae Ku Park in the quarterfinals.
After competing in Canada, the Maui pair traveled to Las Vegas for the World Taekwondo President’s Cup, held last weekend.
San Agustin defeated top-seeded Kenneth Victoriano of the U.S. in the quarterfinals before losing to Mexico’s Kevin Topete in the semifinals to claim bronze.
