HONOLULU (AP) -- Eddie Stansberry had 24 points as the University of Hawaii men's basketball team beat New Orleans 79-71 on Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Stansberry made 6 of 9 from the field, 4 of 7 from 3-point range and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Zigmars Raimo had 15 points and nine rebounds, Samuta Avea scored 12 points and Drew Buggs had 11 points and seven assists for the Rainbow Warriors (4-2).
Bryson Robinson had 17 points and five steals, and Gerrale Gates added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Privateers (1-4), whose losing streak stretched to four games. Troy Green and Damion Rosser scored 13 points apiece.
UH didn't trail in the opening half except for the first few minutes of the game, taking a 31-29 lead into the break.
New Orleans regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Robinson less than 15 seconds into the second half, and the teams traded the lead until Stansberry hit a 3 with 16:20 left to put UH up 40-39. The Rainbow Warriors never relinquished the lead again as they went 14 of 21 from the field in the second half (66.7 percent).
Hawaii next hosts San Francisco on Friday and Hawaii Pacific on Dec. 1 before a Dec. 7 game at No. 11 Oregon.
