King Kekaulike, Kamehameha girls claim state tournament spots

The King Kekaulike High School and Kamehameha Maui girls soccer teams both qualified for next month’s state tournament after posting wins Saturday.

Na Alii improved to 7-0-1 in Maui Interscholastic League play with a 9-0 win over Seabury Hall (1-7-0) in Olinda.

Sheylyn Ranis and Mia Kamakaiwi both scored twice, and Teani Arakawa, Ui Kaaihue, Cheyana Costa-Neikter, Madeline Groh and Taite Taniguchi each added a goal for King Kekaulike.

Kaena Kehano and Maile Kehano each scored two goals as the Warriors (6-0-2) defeated Lahainaluna 6-0 in Lahaina. Madi Gouyetes and Kamahie Samudio also scored.

Both league leaders play again Wednesday before finishing the regular season against each other on Saturday in a match that will likely determine the MIL title.
