Rainbow Wahine fall to Matadors

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team dropped its third straight game Thursday, losing at Cal State Northridge 58-54 in both teams’ Big West Conference opener.

It was a tale of two halves for the Rainbow Wahine (6-8). They shot 50 percent in each of the first and second quarters, leading 16-9 after the first and eventually opening up a 12-point advantage after a layup by Lauren Rewers with 9 minutes, 21 seconds remaining in the second.

Although the Matadors closed to 32-26 by halftime, UH still held the lead until late in the third quarter. Northridge outscored the Rainbow Wahine 17-11 in the frame to take the lead and held on for the win.

Myrrah Joseph had 11 points and Julissa Tago added 10 for Hawaii. De’Jionae Calloway led the Matadors (6-9) with 22 points.

UH plays at UC Davis on Saturday.
