Farmers knock out Trojans in scorefest

Kanalu Kahale had 26 points to lead a trio of Molokai High School players to score more than 20 points as the Farmers defeated St. Anthony 96-79 in a Maui Interscholastic League Division II boys basketball tournament first-round game Wednesday night at the Erdman Athletic Center in Olinda.

Kahale hit four 3-pointers, as did teammate Nickolas Rapanot, who finished with 23 points. Vaai Seumalo chipped in 21 points as the fifth-seeded Farmers (3-8) knocked out the fourth-seeded Trojans (3-9).

St. Anthony got a game-high 42 points from Kaimana Baker. Devontae Myrick added 19 points and Jason James Power had 10.

Molokai advances to face regular-season champion Sea­bury Hall today.

In Wednesday’s other first-round game, Drew Triplett poured in 36 points to lead third-seeded Maui Prep (7-4) to a 75-52 victory over sixth-seeded Hana (0-10).

Na Pueo face No. 2 seed Lanai today in the semifinals.

Shayden Hoopai-Waikoloa had 22 points for the Dragons.
