UH drops men’s, women’s games on Saturday

It was a tough Saturday for the University of Hawaii basketball programs.

The UH men's basketball team dropped a 49-43 decision to UC Riverside at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors (16-12 overall, 7-7 Big West Conference) were led by Samuta Avea's 10 points as they shot just 32 percent from the floor (16 for 50) on senior night for Eddie Stansberry and Zigmars Raimo.

UC Riverside (16-15, 6-9) also outrebounded Hawaii 37-27. Arinze Chidom scored a game-high 14 points, while Callum McRae added 12 for UCR.

Hawaii finishes the regular season this week with a game at UC Davis on Thursday and at Cal State Northridge on Saturday. The Big West tournament starts March 12 in Anaheim, Calif.

The Hawaii women's team lost 70-64 at Cal State Fullerton. The Wahine fell to 14-13 overall, 8-6 in the Big West.

Julissa Tago scored 26 points for UH, but no other Wahine player scored more than Amy Atwell's nine points.

Fullerton (16-11, 8-6) was led by Taylor Turney's 23 points, while Amiee Book added 22 and Raiuna Perez had 13.

Hawaii finishes the regular season this week with UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday and Cal Poly on Saturday, both at home.
