Akina named MHS head soccer coach
Maui High School announced Wednesday it has hired Timmy Akina Jr. as head boys soccer coach.
Akina has more than 23 years of experience as a head soccer coach and official at both the youth and high school levels.
Athletic Director Michael Ban said in a press release, “Coach Akina is an experienced coach and we are excited to have him as part of our staff. We are confident that Coach Akina will instill the passion and discipline necessary for our boy soccer team to be successful.”
Akina said, “I am excited and looking forward to this upcoming season. I would want to get to know my players and help build a soccer program here at Maui High.”
HHSAA extends practice ban
The Hawaii High School Athletic Association and its member leagues are extending the suspension of all interscholastic practices until return-to-play guidelines have been adopted for the reopening of facilities and workouts, the HHSAA announced in a press release on Wednesday.
This suspension will be evaluated weekly by HHSAA and its member leagues, which includes the Maui Interscholastic League.
Bears looking for several head coaches
Baldwin High School Athletics has openings for the following head coaching positions for the upcoming 2020-21 school year: cheerleading, girls volleyball, girls track and field, girls and boys tennis, and girls water polo.
