Tanaka named new Na Alii girls volleyball coach
King Kekaulike High School athletic director P.K. Higa announced Friday that Kalae Tanaka has been hired as the school’s girls volleyball coach.
Tanaka served as a varsity assistant and JV head coach to former coach Al Paschoal, who guided Na Alii to five of the last six Maui Interscholastic League titles. Tanaka also assisted Paschoal’s club program.
“We feel Kalae’s coaching experience is a great fit for our program and his familiarity with our players is a huge asset coming in,” Higa said in an emailed statement. “We would like to thank Coach Paschoal for the legacy he has brought to us. We would also like to extend a big mahalo to all of our committee panelists, and those that applied. It’s always a tough decision to make and we look forward to a new chapter in Na Wahine Alii Volleyball.
“Kalae really cares for our kids and school, he’s familiar with the majority of our athletes, as most of them played JV for him. Above all else, though, is his genuine care and aloha for our program, our school, and our community.”
