The Chicago Bears signed former Punahou School and Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te’o to their practice squad on Tuesday.

A 2012 Heisman Trophy finalist for the Fighting Irish, Te’o has made 48 starts and 62 appearances over seven seasons with the then-San Diego Chargers (2013-16) and New Orleans Saints (2017-19). He has 307 tackles — 22 for loss — along with 13 pass breakups and two interceptions.

He takes the practice squad spot of kicker Kai Forbath, signed Tuesday to the Los Angeles Rams’ active roster.

Also on Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders activated quarterback Marcus Mariota from injured reserve.

Mariota, who signed with the Raiders in the offseason after spending his first five seasons with the Tennessee Titans, was placed on IR before the start of the season with a strained pectoral.

The Saint Louis graduate is expected to move into the backup role behind starting QB Derek Carr when the Raiders (3-2) host Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Mariota has thrown for 13,207 yards with 76 touchdowns and 44 interceptions in his NFL career. He has also rushed for 1,399 yards and 11 TDs.
