King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell was among four University of Hawaii men's volleyball players named to Off the Block's Preseason All-America teams Monday.
Cowell, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, was named to the second team, as was UH middle blocker Patrick Gasman. Opposite Rado Parapunov and libero Gage Worsley were selected to the first team. All four were picked to the 2020 AVCA All-America teams.
Off the Block's preseason All-America teams were selected by a voting committee comprised of 20 NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball head coaches and men's volleyball media members from around the nation.
Cowell earned first-team all-Big West Conference honors last year and was a finalist for Off the Block's Karch Kiraly Award as the nation's best outside hitter. He ranked No. 3 in the Big West and No. 15 nationally in kills per set (3.77) and tallied double-figure kills in eight of 12 matches while hitting .400 or better seven times.
Seniors Cowell, Parapunov, Gasman and outside hitter James Anastassiades all decided to return to UH after last season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this month, the Rainbow Warriors were picked No. 2 in the AVCA preseason poll, behind BYU. The teams split their two meetings last season.
UH's 2021 schedule has not yet been officially announced.
