Rainbow Warriors drop fourth straight with 83-67 loss to Titans
Tray Maddox Jr. scored 23 points as Cal State Fullerton beat the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team 83-67 on Friday in Fullerton, Calif.
Dante Maddox Jr. shot 5 for 7 on 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, and Vincent Lee added 14 points for the hot-shooting Titans (4-4, 3-4 Big West Conference), who shot 53.6 percent (30 of 56) for the game. Doctor Bradley added 13 points.
Justin Webster had 20 points and six rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors (3-4, 1-4), whose losing streak stretched to four games. Junior Madut added 12 points and Biwali Bayles had nine rebounds.
The Titans held a huge advantage in points in the paint (40-26) as well as points off turnovers (20-5).
At SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, the UH women’s team escaped with a 49-47 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday night.
Olivia Davies scored 17 points and Jadynn Alexander added 14 points to lead the Rainbow Wahine (2-3, 1-2), who ended a two-game skid.
Anniken Frey led the Titans (1-8, 0-5) with 16 points.
UH led 29-14 at halftime and grew its lead to 23 points midway through the third quarter before Fullerton started to slowly close the gap.
After the Titans pulled within 48-47 late, UH’s Amy Atwell made one of two free throws before Fullerton’s Bella Stratford missed a potential tying jumper at the buzzer.
Both men’s and women’s teams play again today.
