Rainbow Warriors end four-game skid with rout of Titans

The Maui News

Junior Madut had 14 points to lead four Rainbow Warriors in double-digit scoring, and the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated Cal State Fullerton 76-53 on Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.

James Jean-Marie scored 13 points and Casdon Jardine and Justin Webster each chipped in 12 for the Rainbow Warriors, who snapped a four-game losing streak and split a two-game series against the Titans.

UH led 35-28 at halftime and then led by double digits throughout most of the second half thanks in part to 58 percent shooting (18 of 31). The Rainbow Warriors controlled the glass, outrebounding the Titans 48-21 for the game, and held Cal State Fullerton to its lowest point total of the season.

Mate Colina finished with a season-high 11 rebounds for Hawaii (4-4, 2-4 Big West Conference).

Tray Maddox Jr. scored 12 to lead the Titans (4-5, 3-5).

On Saturday night, Jadynn Alexander scored 15 points and Kasey Neubert added 14 as the UH women’s team defeated Cal State Fullerton 57-43 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-3, 2-2) never trailed, jumping out to leads of 14-7 after the first quarter and 24-13 after the second. They led by at least nine points the rest of the game as they swept the teams’ series.

Carolyn Gill and Amiee Book each scored nine points to lead the Titans (1-9, 0-6).

The UH teams play UC Irvine next Friday and Saturday, the men at home and the women on the road.
