University of Hawaii opposite Rado Parapunov was named the AVCA National Player of the Year on Wednesday.
Parapunov, a senior from Sofia, Bulgaria, is the third player in program history to win the award, joining Yuval Katz (co-Player of the Year in 1996) and Costas Theocharidis (2001, 2003).
Parapunov ranks third nationally in kills per set (4.41) and points per set (5.24). In the last two weeks, he became a three-time first team All-American, two-time Big West Player of the Year and three-time all-Big West first team.
Also on Wednesday, Parapunov won Off the Block’s Nicolas Szerszen Award (nation’s best non-U.S. born player) for the third consecutive year and the Bryan Ivie Award (best opposite) for the second time. Other Off the Block honorees included UH’s Gage Worsley (Erik Shoji Award for best libero, Steve Shondell Award for best passer) and Patrick Gasman (Ryan Millar Award for best middle attacker).
