Honolulu Little League advanced to the Little League World Series with a 13-3 semifinal win over Northern California champion Petaluma at the West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif., on Thursday.
Honolulu, which earlier in the regional beat Utah 15-0 and Nevada 7-6, will face either Petaluma or Southern California representative Torrance in the regional final Saturday; the game will be televised live at 8 a.m. HST on ABC.
Because no international teams will play in the Little League World Series this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Honolulu is one of two teams from the West Region that advances to Williamsport, Pa., for the LLWS, which runs Aug. 19-29.
Honolulu advanced to the West Regional with a 9-0 win over Central East Maui in a winner-take-all Hawaii State Little League championship game on July 20 at Dorvin Leis Field in Kihei. Honolulu went 4-1 in the state tournament, winning two of three games against the Maui County champion.
