Igiede, Williams lead UH to conference-opening sweep

Amber Igiede hit .524 as she put down 13 kills and Skylar Williams led a Rainbow Wahine block party with seven stuffs as the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept past UC Riverside on Thursday in Riverside, Calif.

Brooke Van Sickle and Riley Wagoner each added nine kills as the Rainbow Wahine won their Big West Conference opener 25-21, 25-19, 25-16, improving to 4-5 overall.

In her first start, freshman setter Kate Lang had 36 assists, nine digs and four blocks, and Igiede also had four blocks as UH won the battle at the net 11.5-3, resulting in the Highlanders’ .090 hitting percentage. UH hit .320 for the match.

Deja Bickers led UC Riverside (4-8, 0-2 Big West) with 12 kills.

The ‘Bows next play at UC Davis on Saturday.
