Rainbow Wahine top UC Irvine in 4

For the second straight night, the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team rallied after dropping the first set to win in four, defeating UC Irvine on Saturday in Irvine, Calif.

Riley Wagoner recorded a match-high 16 kills and Brooke Van Sickle tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs to lead the Rainbow Wahine to the 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-15 victory.

Freshman setter Kate Lang dished out 44 assists, sophomore Braelyn Akana added a career-high 11 kills and freshman libero Tayli Ikenaga posted 15 digs for UH (9-5, 6-0 Big West), which was coming off a four-set win at UC San Diego the night before.

Joy Umeh had 15 kills and seven blocks to lead the Anteaters (6-11, 3-2), who were outhit .207 to .125.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host Cal Poly on Friday and new Big West member Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
