Cortez earns all-Pac-12 third-team honors

Maui High School graduate Chai Cortez, a senior defender for the University of Oregon women’s soccer team, was named to the All-Pac-12 Conference third team on Friday.

Cortez, from Kahului, started all 19 games at outside back in 2021 for a Duck team that had a 0.97 goals against average (fourth-best in program history) and went 9-4-6.

She also tied for the team lead with five assists.

Cortez plans to return to the Ducks in 2022 as a fifth-year senior due to the extra season of eligibility granted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school said in a news release.

Silva of Kahului sinks hole-in-one at Waiehu

Paul Silva of Kahului made a hole-in-one on Saturday at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.

Silva aced the 161-yard eighth hole using a 4-hybrid. Witnesses were Tom Ochwat, Scott Rollins and Mikey and Carol Miyamoto.

Deloso-Flocco of Kahului records ace

Claire Deloso-Flocco of Kahului made a hole-in-one on Wednesday at The Dunes at Maui Lani.

Deloso-Flocco aced the 17th hole from 83 yards using a 9-hybrid. Dolly Poe Poe and Jayson Kozaki witnessed the shot.

Delaginte of Wailuku aces No. 6 at Maui Lani

Joe Delaginte Jr. of Wailuku recorded a hole-in-one on Nov. 4 at The Dunes at Maui Lani.

Delaginte aced the No. 6 hole from 160 yards using a 6-iron. No witnesses were reported.

Lahaina’s Ylinen has hole-in-one at Pukalani

Johannes Ylinen of Lahaina made a hole-in-one on Nov. 2 at Pukalani Country Club.

Ylinen used an 8-iron to ace the eighth hole from 160 yards. Names of witnesses were not reported.
