Gonzales’ 3 lifts Baldwin over King Kekaulike 36-33

Aubrey Gonzales hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 10 seconds remaining, lifting the Baldwin High School girls basketball team to a 36-33 victory over King Kekaulike in the 4-5 game of the Maui Interscholastic League Division I tournament on Thursday night at Jon Garcia Gym in Wailuku.

The Bears had entered the game winless in MIL play and trailed this one 25-22 after three quarters. Gonzales made two 3-pointers in the fourth-quarter rally, including the game-winning shot that put Baldwin (1-10) into a tournament semifinal against top-seeded Lahainaluna on Monday at Kamehameha Maui. The other semifinal pits the Warriors against Maui High.

Ayshah Vea added 11 points for the Bears. Kalena Akinaka scored nine points to lead Na Alii, who end their season at 3-9.
