The University of Hawaii men's basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak end with a 64-59 loss to UC Riverside on Thursday in Riverside, Calif.
Kamaka Hepa had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Rainbow Warriors, who are now tied atop the Big West Conference standings with Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State at 6-1. They fell to 11-6 overall.
Hawaii led by as many as 11 points early in the first half, hitting 10 of its first 14 shots. But the Rainbow Warriors could only get two points over the final five minutes and held a slim 32-30 lead at halftime.
The game remained close throughout the second half. After a 3-pointer by Jerome Desrosiers gave UH a 52-49 lead with 5:23 remaining, the Highlanders scored six straight points to open up a 55-52 lead and were able to hold on from the free-throw line.
Zyon Pullin and Callum McRae each scored 19 points to lead UC Riverside (12-7, 5-3 Big West).
The Rainbow Warriors next play at UC Davis on Saturday.
In Honolulu, the UH women's team used a 20-9 fourth quarter to rally past UC Davis 57-50 on Thursday night at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Olivia Davies scored 17 points and Amy Atwell added 14 for the Rainbow Wahine (9-8, 5-2), who trailed 31-24 at halftime.
Evanne Turner led the Aggies (9-9, 3-5) with 16 points.
The Rainbow Wahine host UC Riverside on Saturday.
