Makawao teenage archer Liko Arreola picked up a win while finishing just off the podium in another competition in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Arreola, who last year became the youngest ever to score a 900 at The Vegas Shoot, returned for this year's competition -- held at South Point Hotel and Casino, Feb. 3-6 -- and repeated her perfect performance.
Competing in the championship flight of the compound female division, she shot a 900 to join world No. 2 Tanja Gellenthien of Denmark and No. 8 Paige Pearce of California at the top of the standings. In a shoot-off, Arreola bested her competition, posting a 90. Gellenthien scored 89 and Pearce 88.
Arreola also qualified to compete in the elite Indoor Archery World Series, held at the same site on Feb. 5. She shot her way to the semifinals, where she fell to world No. 3 and eventual champion Toja Ellison of Slovenia 148-144. In the bronze-medal match, Arreola came up just short against Gellenthien, 148-147.
