Zaysha-Maelee Keawe of Kamehameha Schools Maui was the lone medalist from the Maui Interscholastic League at the Atlas Insurance/HHSAA state judo championships Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Keawe, the MIL champion at 139 pounds, defeated Waipahu's Ana Nabua and Iolani's Olivia Kim on her way to the semifinals, where she lost to Hilo's Irie Sakai.
In the consolation bracket, Keawe lost to Keaau's Arionna Beatty before falling to Roosevelt's Ayla Jackson in the fifth-place match.
Keawe's finish gave the Warriors three points, good for a tie for 21st place in the girls team standings. Moanalua ran away with the title with 114 points, more than double than that of runner-up Hilo (50). Punahou (44) placed third.
Na Menehune also claimed the boys team title, finishing with 86 points. Iolani (66) was second and Roosevelt (55) third.
