Maui rolls past New Jersey at 50/70 World Series

The Central East Maui Little League All-Stars won their second straight elimination game via the 10-run mercy rule to stay alive at the 50/70 Intermediate (12-13) World Series in Livermore, Calif., on Wednesday.
Maui, which beat Toms River (N.J.) East 11-1 in six innings Wednesday, is now 3-1 at the double-elimination event and is one win from the U.S. championship game that is set for Saturday. The world championship game is Sunday.
Riley Phillips led Maui’s 13-hit display with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included a double, three runs and two RBIs. Jayden Perry-Waikiki smacked a home run for Maui and was 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBIs.
Malu Rosaga was 2 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI, and George Dafun Jr. was 2 for 2 and two RBIs.
Maui, champion of the West Region, plays today at 3 p.m. HST against Central Region champ Highlander Youth Recreation Little League of Georgetown, Ind., in another elimination game.
