Hana fights past MPA in five sets

The Hana High School girls volleyball team solidified its hold on third place in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II ranks with a hard-fought five-set win over Maui Prep on Wednesday.

The Dragons improved to 6-2 with their 25-16, 12-25, 21-25, 25-16, 17-15 at the Erdman Athletic Center on the Seabury Hall campus. 

Na Pueo fell to 4-4.

Araianna Helekahi led the way for the Dragons with 13 kills, eight digs, an ace and an assist. 

Pristine Perry had 10 kills, nine digs, three aces and six assists; Tali Moeai had three kills and an assist; Koali-Kay Kimokeo-Helekahi had five digs, a kill and three aces; Iolana Kaupe had two kills and an ace; and J-Lah Sinenci had 24 assists, two kills and an ace.

Lauren Brown led Maui Prep with 19 kills, three aces and four digs; Avery Kirkham had 12 kills, six aces and five digs; Tessa Chin had six kills, eight digs and an ace; Lacie Leon had two aces, a kill and a dig; and Mayson Mills added three aces.

At Haliimaile Gym, Seabury Hall improved to 6-0 with a 25-9, 25-7, 25-12 sweep of Haleakala Waldorf (0-7). Kekua Richards had 12 kills, Caelyn Hasegawa dished out 33 assists, Mercedes Winicki had eight digs, and Makalani Carey served five aces.
