• Sports Lessons: I love being an athlete because I love to compete and be part of a team. I enjoy being around my people who have the same interest and passion as I do. It has also helped me build so many positive relationships with my teammates and coaches. I also love the rush of getting to compete. Playing sports has become my safe place where my mind goes black and all I can think about is what is happening in the moment. It is a feeling words can't explain.
Being an athlete thas taught me patience, perseverance, leadership and confidence. As a captain, I have so much responsibility to lift my team up and be that person who supports my teammates on and off the court. One of the lessons that I have learned is that my sport is more mental than it is physical. I need to build my mental strength in order to be successful. We need to push through obstacles and challenges in order to reach our goals.
* Sports Spotlight students are selected by school administrators and athletic officials from Maui County high schools and these profiles are compiled by the advertising department of The Maui News. Alexander & Baldwin makes a $200 donation in honor of each student athlete to their high school's athletic fund. Each school year, 84 students are recognized.
