Maui’s Arreola to represent USA at Youth Worlds
Makawao teen Liko Arreola won her division at the World Archery Youth Championships U.S. Team Trials last week and will represent the United States this summer in Ireland.
Arreola was the top finisher in the compound U18 women division in the trials held last Wednesday in Phoenix and was one of three in the division to be selected to be on Team USA for the world championships, set for July 3-9 in Limerick, Ireland.
This past weekend, Arreola also competed in the Arizona Cup and World and Pan Am Team Trials, also in Phoenix. Competing in the compound senior women division, she placed 12th in qualifying in the Arizona Cup and ninth in the World and Pan Am Team Trials.
It’s been a busy year for Arreola, who has been stepping up to take on pros and other senior competitors.
In late January, she placed third in the women’s open pro division in the Lancaster Archery Classic in Pennsylvania. The following week, she placed fifth in the women’s championship division of the Vegas Shoot.
From there, Arreola and her family traveled to Utah for the Easton Scholarship Tour, where she won the compound 19U women division on Feb 18.
Later that month, she placed second out of 419 competitors in the combined compound women division at the USA Indoor Nationals event in Salt Lake City. As a top-8 finisher in that event, Arreola then qualified for a shoot-off in Louisville, Ky., in March. For that event, she took bronze.
That same weekend, Arreola also competed in the NFAA Indoor Nationals and placed second in the championship compound women division.
