All No. 1 and 2 seeds advanced through the semifinals of the Maui Interscholastic League tennis championships Friday at Lahaina Civic Center.
Quarterfinals and semifinals were contested Friday, with finals set for 8 a.m. today in Lahaina.
Top girls singles seed Sophia Kato of Maui High and No. 2 Lia Reisenauer of Seabury Hall both surrendered just one game in sweeping their semifinal matches, as did No. 1 boys singles seed Manoli Placourakis of Seabury.
Placourakis, last season's MIL runner-up, will take on Kihei Charter's Indi Petrone in the finals today after Petrone beat Placourakis' teammate Brandon Yu 7-6 (4), 6-3.
The MIL girls doubles final will be an all-Sabers affair as the No. 1 team of Jordyn Luna and Fakanaua Tongi takes on Maui High teammates Taliah Cabatu and Makena Kennedy, who got past Seabury's Madison Kelly and Bobby Goldyn 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 in the semis.
Luna won the girls doubles title last season with Hie Luna-Beamer.
Second-seeded Noah Mueller and Aumnart Akamai Lapus of Lahainaluna earned their spot in the boys doubles final with a hard-fought 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 6-1 semifinal victory over Kamehameha Maui's Akela Aloy and James Angell. They will face Seabury Hall's Ashton Garzon and Max Huston for the title.
Also to be contested today are consolation matches that will determine state spots.
