• BASEBALL/SOFTBALL
July 20--The Hawaii Chevy Dealers are sponsoring a free youth softball and baseball clinic on July 20 at Lahainaluna High School's on-campus softball field from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign up, go to chevy.com/youthsports, click on the gold "Clinic Registration" box, and then click "Register Now". Select "Hawaii" from the dropdown menu, enter the registration password "playball" for free entry into the clinic, and then click "Submit." In addition to registering before the event, participants are required to bring a signed waiver form to the registration table on the day of the clinic. Friday--Maui High School is currently accepting applications for coaching positions in wrestling and girls water polo. To apply, email a resume to athletic director Michael Ban at michael.ban@k12.hi.us. The deadline to apply is Friday.
• SWIMMING
Thursday--The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation, Aquatics Division, in partnership with Maui Swim Club, will be offering its annual tuition-free Summer Learn to Swim Program. Lessons are taught by Maui Swim Club coaches and experienced swim team members. A mandatory parent meeting will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Coach Spencer Shiraishi Memorial Pool, formally known as Kahului Pool. Swim lessons will be held from 6-6:30 p.m. on weekdays from July 3 to Aug. 31. Children must be 5 years old by the program start date to participate. Rules for participation will be announced at the parent meeting. Space is limited to the first 100 applicants.
• VOLLEYBALL
July 24-27--Kahalawai Volleyball Club will be hosting two preseason training camps on July 24-27 at the Bozich Center on Maui Preparatory Academy's campus in Napili. The Advanced Skills training camp (8:30 a.m.-noon) targets those student-athletes who are preparing for their upcoming varsity seasons. The Intermediate Skills training camp (1-4:30 p.m.) is for students playing junior varsity volleyball this fall; student-athletes entering 8th grade will be welcome to attend this camp as well. The cost of attendance is $150 per participant. Both camps will be led by guest coach Sean Engbers and other Kahalawai coaching staff. To register, visit kahalawaivolleyballclub.com. • WATER SPORTS
July 14-15--The Molokai Holokai Ho'olaule'a, which will feature a combination of ocean paddling and land events, will be held July 14-15 on the Friendly Isle. In addition to food, entertainment, cultural workshops and more, the event features races including the Maui to Molokai Challenge, a 27-mile paddle race; the Ali'i Fishpond run; the 1-5K Molokai Holo Fun Run; the downwind paddle race from Kamalo Harbor to the Molokai Community Health Center; and the three-quarter-mile keiki and makua paddle race.
