Overview

Na Alii shut out the Sabers 28-0 three weeks ago in the opener for both teams. They meet again on Oct. 20, a third meeting in the unbalanced MIL slate. Maui High won its first game last week to stand atop MIL D-I at 1-0, while King Kekaulike lost a hard-fought game.

Sabers at a glance

Senior LB/FB Ofa Falekaono, a Polynesian Bowl invitee, scored the first TD of the season for the Sabers last week on a short run and put them ahead for good on an athletic 45-yard pick six. Piercen Cajical-Evans has rushed for 202 yards.

Na Alii at a glance

Kalelepono Wong nearly led a comeback win last week — he ran 10 times for 90 yards and two TDs, all in the second half. Wong, who also plays safety, is joined by Kalani Puu and Jordan Yoro as key cogs on both sides of the ball. Na Alii’s defense has given up just 28 points.

Quotable

“I’m just happy that these guys got a little monkey off their back. They can get a win right now and hopefully we can build off it.”
