Maui's Eli Hanneman surfs in the quarterfinals of the Corona Saquarema Pro on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hanneman defeated Brazil's Michael Rodrigues 16.83-13.60 before falling to eventual winner Samuel Pupo of Brazil in the semifinals, 13.50-12.00. Meanwhile, fellow Valley Isle surfer Imaikalani deVault bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to California's Crosby Colapinto 14.57-12.30. Both Hanneman and deVault earlier in the week secured spots on next year's World Surf League Championship Tour, which kicks off in January at the Banzai Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore.
