MIL surf coaches take part in certification clinic

FIRST PHOTO: Famed ocean safety pioneers Archie Kalepa and Brian Keaulana speak during the Maui Interscholastic League Surf Coaches Certification Clinic at D.T. Fleming Beach Park earlier this month. MIL surf coaches get certified every two years. Coaches also had to pass a timed open water swim at Hanakao’o Beach Park prior to the clinic. Kalepa and Keaulana taught ocean risk assessment, life saving techniques and open ocean rescue. Maui athletic trainer Chris Pagdilao taught CPR and First Aid at the all-day clinic.
