Pueo, Pine Lads advance to D-II boys basketball semifinals

The Maui Preparatory Academy and Lanai High School boys basketball teams both advanced to the semifinals of the Central Pacific Bank/Maui Interscholastic League Division II tournament with first-round wins Wednesday night at “The Barn” in Hoolehua.

In the first game, Kai Shively scored 23 points to lead third-seeded Maui Prep (6-5) to a 95-21 victory over No. 6 seed Hana.

Kai Godwin added 19 points, while Noah Willard scored 14 and Taj Mohrman 10 for Na Pueo, who will face host Molokai, the No. 2 seed, in the semifinals tonight at 7 p.m.

The Dragons (0-11) got 11 points from Paliku Lind and five apiece from Elau Hoopai-Waikoloa and Nalu Mauliola.

In the second game, Spencer Elan and KJ Kanno each had 10 points, and Chase Connor scored seven as fourth-seeded Lanai defeated fifth-seeded Kihei Charter 50-38.

The Pine Lads (6-5) take on top-seeded Seabury Hall tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Michael Vigil had 14 points and Josiah Auffhammer added 12 points to lead the Tiger Sharks, who end the season at 2-9.
